DAY 1: AFTERNOON

Workshop on “Current Issues in ELT in Vietnam”

Some of our friends were chosen to deliver the presentations about certain trends in English language teaching, including using Chat GPT in language teaching and learning and a case study of using corrective feedback in speaking practice.

The lecturers from TBDU (Ms. Khanh and Ms. Ha) also shared with us some hot issues in the field such as “Bilingual identity of ethnic minority EFL students at higher education institutions in central Vietnam” and “Utilizing English clubs for implicit learning: enhancing communicative skills & enjoyment in non-English major students”.

Also in this session, other groups had parallel presentations in the form of a poster. These include integrating global Englishes into TESOL in Vietnam, adapting the CEFR to local English tests, challenges in teaching and learning collocations, improving ESL students’ intonation in-text using post-class assignments employing shadowing technique, implementing bottom-up strategies to improve students' listening comprehension, using inquiry-based learning in teaching vocabulary to teenagers.

Besides what we took, a certificate on completing the workshop was awarded to each participant. In response to the preparation and thoughtful welcome that TBDU gave us, the EF also sent souvenirs to the institution to mark this memorable event.
